“Letting go of our attachment to how our life should unfold is a wonderful gift to give ourselves.”
Owner and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor
September Prushek, MS, LPCC
Hi ya’ll! I’m September. I identify as a compassionate and authentic clinician who approaches each session with a strengths-based and client-centered approach. Clients have often described me as creating an open and warm atmosphere to share their unique stories. But fear not! Expect delicate and challenging nudges toward personal awareness and growth intertwined throughout the therapeutic experience. I believe each individual has an inner wisdom and intuition, and with the support of the therapeutic relationship, can create space to tap into this knowledge of self, connection with others, and meaning within the world.
I work with adult individuals and couples age 18 through end of life. My therapy specialties include self-esteem, trauma, women’s issues, codependency and relationship concerns, and coping skills. I am trained in psychoanalysis, attachment theory, trauma-informed interventions, Brainspotting, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Emphasis on Early Childhood Experiences, Attachment, & the Subconscious.
When we are born, we are like a blank canvas. Our caregivers, community, relationships, and experiences paint color to this canvas that creates a blueprint for moving through life and how we view ourselves, others, and the world. In other words, the attachments and messages we are taught in our formative years follow us and create a deep-seeded narrative that drives our behaviors and ability to relate with others.
When our early formative years are filled with fear, neglect, abuse, and criticism, though, these narratives can repeat in an unwanted fashion when early experiences are not processed, organized, and made sense of. As an adult this can look like internal questions such as “Why am I so unlovable?” or “Why does this keep happening to me?”. By looking at one’s history of patterns, core beliefs, and personality through a psychoanalytic and attachment-based lens, we can bring these unconscious themes to conscious awareness as a catalyst for change, a new narrative.

What to Expect in Sessions
Have you ever met someone who you automatically felt safe with? Someone who calmed your nervous system and felt you could completely be yourself around? Chances are this person was connecting with you from a place of authenticity. When we show up authentically and hold space for others to be their authentic selves, true meaningful relationships form. Whether in an individual or couples work, as your therapist I show up from a place of genuine care and compassion to better embody an atmosphere where clients feel comfortable to do the same. This may look like practicing vulnerability, appropriate self-disclosure, honesty, and an occasional belly laugh. When practicing authenticity in a safe environment, clients are then able to transfer this authenticity outside of session for a more fulfilling life.
Personal growth and healing are far from a linear process. This internal work deserves space, compassion, and curiosity along with the understanding that there will be ebbs and flows in our journeys. This is healthy and normal! I approach each session from the lens that the client is the master of their internal world, and I am simply meeting each person at their current capacity to gently guide them toward resolution. In the therapeutic relationship, I value client feedback, open dialogue with concerns that may arise, the collaboration of working toward client goals, and pivoting the direction of therapy if a particular therapeutic intervention isn’t working.
